Beard transplant

A beard transplant places grafts, usually taken from the back of the scalp, into sparse areas along the cheeks, chin and moustache. Beard hair grows in a different direction in every zone of the face; a natural result depends on reading that angle correctly.

Who is it for?

  • A sparse or patchy beard
  • Wanting a sharper cheek line
  • Covering a scar area
  • Sparse moustache and chin areas

How is it done?

  1. 01

    Beard design

Cheek and jaw lines are drawn to your facial structure and confirmed with your approval.

  2. 02

    Graft extraction

Grafts are taken from the back of the scalp, selected to be closest to beard hair in thickness.

  3. 03

    Channel creation

Hair direction changes zone by zone, so channels are opened at very acute angles.

  4. 04

    Placement

Mostly single-hair grafts are used for a natural, dense appearance.

Recovery timeline

  1. Days 1–5

Tiny scabs and mild redness; wash your face as instructed by your physician.

  2. Days 7–10

Scabs fall away and you return to social life.

  3. After day 10

Scissor trimming with your physician's approval; razor shaving usually waits a month.

  4. Weeks 2–8

    Some transplanted hairs shed temporarily.

  5. Months 6–12

    The lasting beard settles in.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is a transplanted beard permanent?

Yes. Grafts from the back of the scalp resist shedding and remain permanent in their new location.

Can I shave a transplanted beard?

Yes. Once fully healed it can be shaved, trimmed and styled like a natural beard.

How many grafts will I need?

It depends on how sparse the beard is; filling a patch and designing a full beard are very different. Your photos give a preliminary estimate.
